Amy B Tiong is a first-gen Chinese American writer and director. She is a Gates Millennium and NYU Tisch Dean’s Scholar. Most recently, she was named the 2025 Hansberry-Lilly Playwriting Fellow.

 

As a BIPOC woman with a disability, Amy uses genre-bending film to examine intersectionalities and the complexities of womanhood. She has directed and produced documentary shorts with the NAACP, The Dolby Institute, Ghetto Film School, Picturestart, and the Cyrus Tang Foundation. 

Her co-directed film take care zora—produced in partnership with Ghetto Film School and the Dolby Institute—premiered at AMC Lincoln Center. Her editorial short BitterSweet received coverage from NBC News and Elite Daily. Her latest film, Delivery, was produced with support from NALIP and Wavelength Productions through the Wave Grant. 

Amy’s feature script When You’re Ready to Go was a finalist for WeScreenplay, ScreenCraft, and Stowe Story Labs, and ranks in the top 3% of all scripts on Coverfly. Previously, she worked as a Production Coordinator at VICE Media, contributing to branded content, digital series, and news programming. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage at Northwestern University, where she is one of four writers selected for the program’s screenwriting concentration.
